CIO Dive has an excellent article profiling the CIO of Red Hat’s approach to being a transformational CIO.  He spent his first year as CIO trying to understand Red Hat’s values, culture and strategy and adapting his approach to those objectives.  This differs from many CIOs who come in and try to repeat the same playbook that was successful at another (different) company.  I also liked the four principles that he installed to improve Red Hat’s approach:

  • Operational Excellence
  • High performance teamwork
  • Continuous improvement, transparency, and accountability
  • Open source thinking
