CIO Dive recently published an excellent opinion piece arguing that, while the business must be receptive to it, IT must get out of their own way to get a place at the table. The author, Jared Greene, suggests that IT is spending too much time keeping the lights on than finding ways to drive business value. Basically:
They are too busy fighting the alligators to drain the swamp.
Jared goes on to suggest some key actions IT can take (like automating routine tasks and focusing on future, not legacy, technologies). This is definitely a good article for any IT executive to read, especially if you’re struggling to get out of the churn of solving user issues.
